CATALANS DRAGONS BEGIN £7M WORK ON GILBERT BRUTUS STADIUM

Catalans Dragons have started £7 million renovation works on their Gilbert Brutus Stadium.

The long-awaited redevelopment has been held up following two-years of squabbling with local authorities which has left the project 12 months behind schedule.

The upgrading will include a new stand with a capacity of 2,500 seats, a new club shop, a bar and restaurant and also administrative offices.

Dragons’ General Manager Christophe Levy told www.catalansdragons.com : “Today, we welcome with great enthusiasm the start of the renovation of our stadium.

This work has been the subject of lengthy negotiations between our president Bernard Guasch and local authorities, but we finally managed to find agreement.

“Next year, the club can take a new twist with this new infrastructure. Next year we can take the club to another level with new facilities. These facilities will allow us to have additional income and we can finally compete with other professional clubs.”

The club hopes the improvements will boost their chances of gaining a license for the 2012-2014 Super League.
