FC United of Manchester has been given planning permission for a brand new 5,000 capacity stadium at Ten Acres Lane.

The news will delight supporters of the breakaway club which was formed in 2005 by disgruntled Manchester United fans following the controversial takeover of the club.

A £3.5m sports complex will be built in Newton Heath, only streets away from Manchester United’s first home.

General manager Andy Walsh said: "This is fantastic news and testament to the hard work and support we have received from New East Manchester and Manchester City Council, in particular the help and guidance from the planning department.

"None of this would have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our supporters and their desire to see supporter ownership at all clubs."

The club has already raised nearly £700,000 from a community shares scheme it launched six weeks ago but needs £3.5m to complete the stadium.
