VANDALS BURN KASSAM STADIUM PITCH

Oxford United Football Club has been on the receiving end of vandalism ahead of their match against Bradford.

Vandals broke into the Kassam Stadium in the early hours of Saturday morning and burnt 'STFC' - the initials of local rivals Swindon Town Football Club - into the pitch. The men were captured on CCTV footage which is being investigated by Police.

A club spokesman said: "Thames Valley Police are studying CCTV footage and are working with the club to catch those responsible. The club can confirm that at 5.36am an incident of vandalism occurred at the Kassam stadium, damaging the pitch."

The letters STFC had seemingly been burnt into the grass in two places in front of the North Stand at the ground's open end.

PC Paul Phillips of Thames Valley Police said: "We are studying CCTV and have images of persons on the pitch at 5.36am. We are working closely with the club and Ozone security with a view to identifying these people.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 08458 505505."
