AFC WIMBLEDON MOVING CLOSER TO HOME

Plans to renovate the Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium could see the venue become a 10,000 to 15,000-seater football stadium.

The proposal put forward by the Greyhound Racing Authority (GRA) also includes 450-500 homes and a retail store. Community benefits will also be an outcome of the plans, such as coaching courses to promote sport to young people across London.

Merton Council cabinet member Andrew Judge has expressed his belief that the move could possibly bring AFC Wimbledon back to Merton.

The Dons, since their inception in 2002, have ground-shared with Kingstonian at the 4,850-capacity Kingsmeadow.

The GRA may start formal planning after consulting with partners in the coming months.
