Al Ahli have been given permission by UAE Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to build a new stadium.
The exact details on the new ground’s size and location are as yet to be announced, but Sheikh Mohammed has seen the initial plans of the stadium and is happy for the project to progress.
Fans of the club will hope the Red Knights do not stray too far from their current Al Qusais home but the final decision on where the new venue, to be known as the Mohammed bin Rashid Stadium, is to be built will lie with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Ahli CEO Ahmed Khalifa said: “[Sheikh Mohammed] asked some people to arrange where to build this stadium and in which area. We do not know where yet but Sheikh Mohammed will decide.
“He has seen all the drawings but I do not know if there will be any changes to what he has seen, according to his vision. At the moment, he has approved everything but we need to know where the location is and then, according to that, maybe the size will be adapted according to the size of the plot.”
