The King George V Stadium has been identified as a possible location for Grimsby Town’s new ground.
The Skrill Premier club could see the Weelsby Road site as an option, should its plan to move to land beside the Peaks Parkway not materialize.
Various other locations have been considered and discounted by the club, including the former Macaulay Lane Tip, farmland at Great Coates, Freeman Street, Cromwell Road and Grimsby Docks.
North East Lincolnshire Council leader Chris Shaw would not be drawn on whether he supported the Peaks Parkway option, but suggested King George V Stadium could be an alternative.
“If Peaks Parkway does not happen, there are other sites. With Clee Field behind, King George V Stadium is quite a large site. If the club thinks the idea has any merit then they need to speak to the council,” Mr. Shaw said.
Grimsby Town having until June to submit an outline planning application regarding the Peaks Parkway development, before an exclusivity deal with the council over the land expires.
Back in November, Mariners fans vented their frustration at the club’s persistence to move away from Blundell Park.
