The United States Tennis Association are planning to improve the Arthur Ashe Stadium, home of the US Open, by building a retractable roof over the centre court as part a major development.
The USTA have announced Flushing Meadows venue is to undergo a major overhaul which will include the construction of two new stadiums at New York's Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Bad weather has effected recent US Open competitions with the men's finals being pushed to Monday for each of the past five years.
Reigning US Open champion Andy Murray is backing the introduction of a roof. He said: "For certain reasons it's great. For TV and stuff, it's fantastic. Always good that you know matches are going to get finished."
