Basingstoke and Dean Council have backed Basingstoke Town Football Club's plans to build a new £10 million stadium.
Construction of the 5,000 capacity venue is set to begin the 2014-15 season and will be funded by replacing their existing home Camrose Stadium with a 90,000 sq ft (27,432 sq m) retail park.
The club has been in negotiations with their local council, who own the area, since unveiling plans for the new development this time last year.
In a statement on the club's website, www.basingstoketown.net, they state: "A new ground is essential to allow Basingstoke Town to progress up the leagues and grow from our current position in the Blue Square Conference South.
"The Camrose Stadium is badly run down and in need of significant repair.
"If the club achieves its promotion ambitions, the ground does not meet the minimum requirements of higher leagues."
