BRAZIL WORLD CUP STADIUM WORKER KILLED

A construction worker has been killed while building one of Brazil’s World Cup stadiums, taking the death toll to eight.

Muhammed Ali Maciel Afonso, 32, was electrocuted in an accident while installing communications equipment at the Arena Panatanal in the western city of Cuiaba.

He is the first fatality at this stadium, but becomes the latest victim of the preparations as the country continues their battle to be ready for the tournament.

The Arena Panatanal in one of several stadiums still to be finished with the World Cup now under five weeks away.

The venue held a test match last month but the is one of the most delayed with seating and wiring yet to be finished. 

Four group stage matches are due to be played in the 40,000-seat arena.
