CASTLEFORD TIGERS’ NEW STADIUM PLANS APPROVED

Castleford Tigers will get a new 10,000-seater stadium after plans were approved by Wakefield councillors.

The planning committee has approved the outline application for a £135 million Five Towns Park scheme, which also includes plans for a supermarket, shops, a petrol station and a country park.

The facility will be built on wasteland by junction 32 of the M62 at Glass Houghton and it is estimated could create around 2,000 jobs.

The rugby league side currently plays at Wheldon Road, a stadium which opened back in 1926.
