Wembley officials have received criticism over the condition of the playing surface during England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia.

The turf at the national stadium was visibly torn throughout the game, and markings from the NFL clash between Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars six days earlier were also clear to see.

There has been much concern over the increased chances of injury that the tarnished pitch could cause, and the FA's reluctance to prioritise its quality for the England national side.

Wembley could be set to host an NFL franchise on a permanent basis within the next few years, a decision that would likely send England on the road once more for international fixtures.

England manager Roy Hodgson said: “I can't pretend that [the NFL clash at Wembley] is something that makes me leap for joy.

“If I was asked if it was a good thing or not, I would have to say not.”
