COVENTRY CITY: SEPTEMBER DEADLINE FOR STADIUM PLANS

Coventry City’s plans for a new stadium need to be produced by September to maintain their prospects of building it at one of their preferred locations.

Local paper The Coventry Telegraph obtained minutes of a private meeting held between Rugby Borough Council officials and Coventry chairman Tim Fisher and chief executive Steve Waggott, in which the preferred site is listed as being on green belt land within the boundaries of Rugby borough.

The Sky Blues - who are looking to move away from the Ricoh Arena - have been give an autumn deadline as the council draws up its local plan to determine what available land can be used.

The document also shows that the club is also looking to construct an 18,000-seater stadium with the potential of a further 5,000 seats, up from the original 15,000.
