The former home of Darlington Football Club has been sold to Darlington Mowden Park, a rugby club.
The 25,000-seater Arena has not been used since the football club went out of business in April 2012 but the rugby team hope to bring it back into use early next year.
Mowden Park, who recently sold their Yiewsley Drive ground to a housing company for £6m, reportedly paid £2m for the stadium which has gained a reputation as being a white elephant since its construction in 2003.
The Arena has never never attracted a large enough crowds to meet its running costs and the capacity is currently restricted to 10,000 because of access issues.
