Ghana's Essipong Sports Stadium is in danger of becoming dilapidated.

It is believed the track inside the stadium the metal structures of the ground and parts of the main car park are in a state of despair.

The venue, which was built for the Ghana 2008 Cup of Nations, is constructed on a swamp around the Essipong River and, therefore, the tracks become waterlogged when rain falls.

The damage means the stadium will not be able to host major athletic competitions or high profile football matches.

Western Regional Sports Development Officer, Beresford Ogbaami Amui Mensah, insisted the damage isn't a major problem and said it would be resolved when funding is found.
