JUDGE STOPS WORLD CUP CONSTRUCTION

Construction on Arena da Baixada in Curithiba has been suspended by a Brazilian judge after fears about workers' safety was voiced.

The judge deemed the Brazil 2014 World Cup stadium unsafe and demanded improvements are made before continuing work.

The venue is 80 per cent built and this delay will increase the already high-pressure on the construction firm to hit FIFA's December completion deadline.

Arena da Baixada, home of Atletico Paranaense, was first opened in 1999 and the redevelopment will see its capacity grow from 28,413 to 43,900.
