The Sun Life Stadium in Miami is set to be given a revamp after redevelopment plans were given the green light.
The deal was struck between Stephen Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins NFL franchise, and the Miami-Dade County Commission.
Modernisation of the venue, which opened in 1987, is to be completed in two stages. The first phase will begin in a few weeks with completion of the whole project aimed in time for the start of the 2016 NFL season.
The stadium will see 3,600 seats moved closer to the field, the installation of new high-definition lighting and new scoreboards and upgraded amenities.
The Dolphins are now lining up a bid to host the Superbowl, with the next available date in 2019.
