Newport County have extended their stay at Rodney Parade by signing a new 10-year lease.

A new deal was required to be signed to meet Football League requirements should Newport be promoted to League 2 or reach the Blue Square Premier Division Play-Offs this term.

Justin Edinburgh's side currently sit fifth in the division, five points off the top.

"This is another milestone in the history of Newport County," said chief executive Dave Boddy.

The Blue Square Bet Premier side relocated to Rodney Parade last summer, when they moved out of Spytty Park.

They initially struck a three-year deal to share the home of rugby sides Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport Rugby Club but that has been extended, improving the club's stability, believes Boddy.

"We now have a secured future and a platform from which we can formulate a long term business plan and structure for many years to come," Boddy added.

"Hopefully, what we have achieved off the field today will help support what Justin and the players are achieving on the pitch."
