The National Football League have marked their intentions to help the Raiders remain in Oakland by revealing they would be willing to contribute funds to build a new stadium.
The Raiders currently call the Oakland Coliseum home but have expressed their desire for a more modern facility at the same location. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has also said the California-based franchise must improve their facility situation but discussions between the team and city officials have not resulted in an agreement, as of yet.
It would not be the first time the league has stepped in to help stadium constructions, $200 million was given to help find a new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara.
Goodell said the NFL would be able to fund a stadium for the Raiders if a deal was reached, and that the Raiders could share the 49ers’ stadium when it is scheduled to open in 2014.
