Plans for Las Vegas to host an NFL franchise took a significant step forward on Thursday when key figures revealed they had enough votes for a stadium to be built.
Election officials in California confirmed that the required number of signatures had been received to potentially launch the proposal.
Should plans go ahead, an 80,000-seater stadium will be constructed at the site of a former racetrack, with St. Louis Rams rumoured to be returning to the state.
Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts said he expected strong support for the plans: "It has been clear to me from the beginning that the community support for this modification is popular by an overwhelming number of the populace."
