The San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders have announced that they are in talks over a proposal to build a new $1.7 billion stadium in Carson, California.
The NFL teams said in a joint statement on Thursday that they are continuing to work within their home areas to find stadium solutions, but they would share grounds if they relocate to Los Angeles.
“We are pursuing the stadium option in Carson for one straightforward reason: if we cannot find a permanent solution in our home markets, we have no alternative but to preserve other options to guarantee the future economic viability of our franchises,” the two said in the joint statement.
Carson is 15 miles south of downtown LA and is home to Major League Soccer franchise Los Angeles Galaxy.
LA has not had an NFL team since 1995.
