Sheffield United have re-named a stand after London 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jessica Ennis.
The Sheffield-born athlete was the poster athlete in the build up to this summer's London Olympic Games and she didn't disappoint - dominating the heptathlon and coming away with the gold medal. Ennis has since been presented with the freedom of the city and now the Blades' have re-named a Bramall Lane stand to honour her achievements.
Ennis said: "It is wonderful and totally unexpected to have further recognition from within Sheffield and from the football club.
"I never expected when I started out in athletics in Sheffield all those years ago that I would have a football stand at Sheffield United named after me."
Blades owner Kevin McCabe said: "She is probably Sheffield's biggest ever star. She's uplifted everyone and brought pride to the city.
"Jessica and her family are Unitedites and after discussions with them we all agreed that renaming the Bramall Lane stand after her would provide an additional sporting legacy from the London Games."
