SWANSEA CITY’S LIBERTY STADIUM EXPANSION SET FOR JANUARY 2015

Plans to increase Premier League side Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium could begin in January 2015.

The club are hoping to add as many as 5,000 extra seats to the East Stand, the first phase of a longer plan to install 11,000 seats throughout the ground.

Chairman Huw Jenkins eased fears that the initial expansion would disrupt the current capacity during the 2014/15 campaign.

“We are currently exploring all the options available to us with regards to the proposed stadium expansion,” Jenkins said.

“It is a very expensive, complicated and time-consuming process. We have visited a number of similar stadiums to assess our best option and we are confident of starting work on phase one of the expansion in January 2015.”

It is expected that the phase one expansion will be completed in time for the start of the 2015/16 season.
